Daily Rewind – 3/30

Notable Songs:

Kendrick’s second new song in as many weeks sees him gearing up for a new album and showing he’s still the king of rap. “The Heart Part 4” hinted at 4/7 release date and it seems like that’s pretty realistic. Watch the great video below:

Broken Social Scene’s members have been releasing songs this year and heavily hinted at a new album for the Canadian collective. Now Kevin Drew, the main leader of BSS, said the album is finished and being mastered, so hopefully a release date will be announced soon. “Halfway Home” sees them picking up where they left off seven years ago.

NOLA band Caddywhompus are gearing up to release their third album on 4/14. Today the second single, “Splinter,” was dropped. It’s a track of two halves, with the first being slower and having different chords. Both halves however are great and makes this a much anticipated album.

Pet Symmetry, the Chicago emo supergroup trio of Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It.), Erik Czaja (Dowsing), and What Gives/ex-Dowsing’s Marcus Nuccio, are releasing a follow-up album to 2015’s Pets Hounds. The new song is called “Stare Collections” and is still full of the pop-riffs of the last one but but follows closer to the indie/emo of other projects like There/Their/They’re. Pet Symmetry will release their sophomore album, Visions, on 5/26 via Polyvinyl.

East Coast and West Coast rappers meet on “Rockabye Baby.” This is the newest track from Joey Bada$$ and it features Schoolboy Q. Both rappers spit fire and keeps the excitement up for the new politcally charged album All-Amerikkkan Bada$$, which comes out 4/7 via Pro Era.

Los Angeles Police Department (Ryan Pollie) is releasing his second album, which will also be self-titled. He put out the third single from it today called “If I Lied.” It’s a mainly acoustic diddy that has a basic pop structure, much like his other work. Los Angeles Police Department will be released on 4/28 via Anti-.

Albums Now Streaming:

One of the albums I’ve been most excited about for this year is the debut full-length from NY duo Diet Cig. I few tracks, such as “Tummy Ache,” have already premiered, but now the whole album I Swear I’m Good At This is available for stream an entire week early! The duo, comprised of Alex Luciano (guitar/vocals) and Noah Bowman (drums), make bare bones pop-punk with insightful and clever lyrics. Stream below thanks to NPR.
